How to build self-esteem...
As humans we often need reassurance that we are doing something right or doing the ‘right thing’.
Some of us are fearful of this most of the time and prefer to be told what to do and when. We choose to remain within a level of our job so that we are not the ultimate decision makers. We choose to go along with our friends’ ideas for evenings out and holidays. We choose to allow our spouse to decorate the home and we are happy with this. Others of us are completely opposite and hate being ‘told what to do.’ We seek to lead in our workplace and are ambitious to raise through the ranks. We have ‘great’ ideas for social events and enthusiastically encourage others to join. We choose to make the decisions for our home and family.
Some people always need reassurance that they are making the right decisions whilst others never do, and then there are of all of us who are somewhere in between on this decision making spectrum.
Wherever you feel you fit into this, and there is no better or more admirable position, most of us humans still look for reassurance in some ways. Many of us look for others to validate us either verbally, through their actions, through social media attention, or from rewards such as promotions or awards. Some of us look for ‘signs’. Spiritual signs from guides, angels or even God are welcomed by people all over the world. Some of us await instruction from these spiritual advisors. Others favour practical signs such as a growing business, financial reward or a satisfied customer. We also welcome signs from our own selves that we are making the right decisions; we feel physically or emotionally healthier or we have a deep sense of accomplishment.
This is human nature – we all want to be reassured that we are doing the right thing, making the right decisions and just getting it right….but what is right? Who knows anyway? Why we would suppose that there is in fact a single right thought, action or decision at all? Of course we are guided by our own morality and the social consciousness of what is morally acceptable in our culture. Likewise, most of us are guided by the law of our land. However assuming that we acknowledge and work within these parameters, why are we still so scared of getting it wrong?
We are spending so much time seeking reassurance from others that we often fail to see that we already have the answers within. We are all divinely wise and the only right decision for us is one we make ourselves. Of course we can listen to others’ advice and we can ask for guidance, but understanding that ultimately we are the only ones capable of making decisions for ourselves because we already have the answer within us is true freedom. Freedom to always get it right. Right for you.
Wishing you an empowered day!
I love you, humanity
