You might have noticed that for much of this month I have been focused on Spreading the Holiday Spirit, in the run up to Christmas. Of course, not everyone celebrates Christmas in the traditional way here in Britain, but no one can miss the festive lights, shop windows, and general buzz of excitement that is in the eyes of children and the very air itself.
I wanted to Spread the Holiday Spirit as a way of giving back to everyone in my life; which is everyone. We are a beautiful network of humanity, and so we are all connected. I am a big fan of the festive season and I wanted to share my pleasure with those I love, those in my community, those who support me and those people I have not yet met.
I have been travelling the length of the country to catch up with relatives, volunteering my time to assist in community projects, donating to charities, helping out neighbours, decorating buildings and battling crowds of shoppers for people who can’t get out easily. I have been Spreading the Holiday Spirit far and wide by giving time, energy, money, and of course, love.
So, here’s the thing. In all this giving and Spreading of the Holiday Spirit it is me who has benefited the most. Sure, I’ve been a little tired and had some long days, but I have felt so much joy and had so much fun.
In spreading love so consciously, I have felt more happiness and love. The adage is true, there are no selfless acts; by giving we receive.
