So you have been following the blog and have found your authentic self, the real you. You are in touch with yourself. Doesn’t that feel good? Okay, how about taking him or her, out for a little drive, to get some air?
Here’s a game I play which will do just that. It is called, ‘Pass the smile!’ It’s really easy, costs nothing and is a little daring – Oh, come on!!
All you have to do today is consciously look at people in the eye and smile at them. Not a twitch that could just be you exercising your lips. Not a quick, flat, horizontal mouth movement that never reaches your cheeks let alone your eyes. No! I’m talking about a, ‘’I am looking at you, smiling, wishing you happiness and showing you that I see you; I know you are part of this wonderful network of humanity as I am and I salute you!’’ kind of smile!
Now I know what you are thinking, and I agree. This is not a game to play with everyone you cross paths with today, particularly in some neighbourhoods. It’s going to be much easier for you, my dear, in your peaceful little village in Somerset, than you, beautiful, in the rush hour on the tube in Zone 1 today. So trust your discernment, look at your people deep into their eyes and smile.
This is the fun bit; you will get a mixed reaction to this gorgeous opening-up of yourself to your fellow humans, I’m not going to lie!
The top three reactions I get, are these:
A quick second glance and then a swivel away, ‘’is she smiling at someone else?’’
A nervous start and then the tiniest twitch of what could be a smile back.
A facial sunbeam and a connection of our souls and just for a second I know we see and salute each other.
Whatever the reaction, you will have connected positively with them in some way, and at some time later, they will pass that smile on to someone else. By opening yourself up to them, they just might show their beautiful soul to someone else, just for a second, and before you know it there are little sparks of human contact lighting up your community.
Congratulations, you win! They win! We all win!
