Finding self love and self acceptance
We are all here to learn – and we do. We learn from the minute we are born. Physical things like moving, feeding ourselves and emotional lessons such as love, patience and respect. Spiritually, I think we have a pretty good handle on things already from the moment we arrive into this world, and then the hustle and bustle of human life and interactions gets in the way.
Babies crawl around exploring and assume they are accepted by everyone and everything they meet. They feel able to move wherever they want to completely uninhibited by what they think someone may think about them, or what they look like, or how they move.
It is with every passing day that we learn. We learn that some people peering into our push chair are not so friendly as others; that some children at school will exclude us sometimes; that if we want to be part of a certain group of friends we will need to dress accordingly; that we are meant to achieve this or have a body like that. All these human interactions change our ability to accept ourselves and that gorgeous feeling of embracing the world and expecting ourselves to be enough just as we are, begins to erode.
Self-acceptance is releasing. It doesn’t mean you throw your hands up and say, ‘’Oh well I can’t do that because, well that’s just me.’’ Or, ‘’ I can’t help it if they don’t like it, that’s just me!’’ No. It means we accept ourselves how we are now, and how we have grown and work towards where we want to be. Treating ourselves and others with care, respect and kindness, rather than punishing ourselves for getting it wrong or messing up.
My affirmation for you today is this: I accept myself for who I was, who I am now and who I will be.
I love you, humanity
