Where do I start?
Hi beautiful souls,
I was thinking today, about all of us who have heaps and heaps of ideas, but never seem to find the time to put them into action, or to even think about putting them into action.
So many of us are creative. We have brilliant ideas all the time. Some of these ideas just drift away in our minds as soon as they arrive. Perhaps our unconscious minds dismiss them because on some level we know they are not that brilliant after all; or maybe we just lose focus. Other ideas we have keep twinkling away in our minds, and these are the ones we can take further.
Some of us do get to the next stage and write our great ideas down so we have a note of them, and some of us even then start to make a plan around these noted down ideas. Many of the amazing creatives that I come across in my work never quite get these brilliant ideas and plans past that stage. They have lists and boards and notebooks full of plans, but they never quite start putting them into action.
If this resonates with you, then the first thing you could really do to help yourself move forward, is to never stop creating. You are brilliant. Your mind is amazing; allow yourself to keep creating and get in the habit of jotting your ideas down so they don’t drift away.
Then make time to focus on one, just one of these amazing ideas, the one which really sparkles for you, and create a plan of action. These creations are your passion and if you can spend a few hours combining this passion with clarity and focus, you will have a plan of action. (Of course, this will change as you progress through the experience more; but you will have an initial plan!)
Are you already withdrawing from this blog because I have mentioned the word, ‘Plan? Does the thought of making a plan feel overwhelming? I know how you feel. Once and years ago, when I was in my first job as a primary school teacher in a brand new school I was faced with the incredibly overwhelming task of setting everything up from scratch. This was not in my remit – I thought I was going to turn up and teach! I guess the reality of the whole job had not really sunk in and as this was a brand new school, there was nothing in place that one would normally expect. So, I had to: design the classroom; order all the furniture, books and materials; plan the curriculum for the year within the completely revamped government regulations; make all the resources for the lesson (worksheets etc); design and make all the initial displays on the walls; plan the first term’s lessons; create lesson plans in detail for the first week’s lessons and of course be ready to teach my first ever class of thirty-six, 7-9-year olds!
Faced with what felt like an incredibly overwhelming task I sought advice from a much more experienced teacher in the school – which by the way was due for a government inspection 3 week into term! I felt really under pressure!! This very kind lady looked at me square in the eye and asked me how I would eat an elephant! I looked back at her very puzzled; (I was vegetarian at this time so it was an unusual analogy for me!) After quite a long pause I suggested timidly I might start with the tail and then take it from there. ‘’Exactly.’’ She said……...
She was so right and I use this concept in my life now when it feels like a task or a set of tasks are overwhelming. No one can eat an elephant in one go. Sitting and staring at it doesn’t the get the job done either, but if you just pick a tiny piece and start nibbling away, and then another tiny piece and start nibbling away, then you will gain momentum and confidence. As as soon as you start eating your elephant it is already smaller. Once you make a start on a project however small the start is, you have made inroads; as you continue everything becomes clearer and new ideas come in. Your plan grows and changes and you move forward at the pace you set.
So, my beautiful creatives, whatever you dream of, whatever wonderful idea you have, just start! Start with the tail and keep nibbling…you’ll be amazed! You are an inspirational waterfall! Would you like to know how to keep flowing and begin to run downstream and out into the sea of real success? I know you can do it!
I wish you a great start today!
I love you, humanity,
Love, Eve
