How to build confidence.....
Good Morning beautiful people!
When was the last time you made a major decision without talking it through with someone else? External validation can be a great thing, a really useful tool to help us take major life changing moves. Advice from friends, experts and family at important times in our lives is wonderful.
However it is when the balance tips from having this type of support on hand, to needing external validation for our normal day to day lives. Wanting others to tell us we look great today or we are socially acceptable, by posting a selfie on Instagram is an extreme version of this need. This practice has become so much parts of our everyday life that it is considered normal amongst teenagers to value themselves on the number of ‘likes’ they get on social media – even if they buy them; so in reality the only person they are kidding is themselves.
When did you stop trusting yourself to decide if you were wearing the right clothes, making the right choices or hanging out in the right places? I have a lovely memories of my oldest daughter when she was a toddler wearing a tutu and wellies every day and everywhere, because she knew looked exactly how she wanted to and it was the perfect outfit for every occasion – she didn’t care that it wasn’t in fashion or that is wasn’t ‘normal’ attire for walking the dog. She wasn’t choosing her outfit to make a statement or to fit in, she wore what she liked because she liked it.
The more you learn to love yourself, the more you are able to trust yourself to make your own choices and daily decisions without needing external validation. To do what you think is right without having to ‘shout’ about it is the key to self-validation. Would you like to know you are worthy of doing this, that you know how to and it is possible for you?
You are!
I love you , humanity
Eve x
