How to be happy...
A popular aim for most human is to be happy.
‘I just want to be happy!’
‘I don’t care as long as I am happy.’
‘Happiness is the most important thing to me.’
Recognise yourself in any of these statements? Being happy is wonderful, exhilarating and for some, a perfect state of being. However indicative in these statements is that the happiness is a goal, and end to a journey which once you eventually arrive there, you should do everything to stay at, remaining still at this blissful destination. In which case it could imply that on reaching the station of happiness one should stop; never change anything and remain in the happiness.
Does that sound good to you? Maybe? Not really? It doesn’t sound great to me as it feels as if it is stagnant. It prevents me growing, finding further opportunities, being flexible, open to adventure and embracing life.
Rather, I choose joy. Finding moments of joy in my everyday life as I grow and change, and move forward creating my life. These moments of joy are essentially creating happiness but in a directional, life enforcing way.
All of us at some time, go through periods in our life when we feel overwhelmed, trapped, and full of grief or anger. That is normal; but even in these times we can find moments of joy and pleasure and we can choose to notice them. Whether these experiences are sights, tastes, smells, sounds or physical touch, we can choose to allow that joy into our life at that moment irrespective of what is troubling us.
Allowing yourself to experience that joy is part of loving yourself. It will create a happiness within you that is present all the time; not a destination but a state of mind.
Choose joy!
I love you, humanity,
Eve x
